It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and bringing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is what Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
