The highly-awaited Season 2 of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel arrives on Prime Video this week, and audience theories has been intense.
Season 1 introduces a large cast of characters living within the afterlife, pits them against each other with songs detailing their conflicts, and builds tense rivalries and emotional bonds that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with fan service as the main goal," the creator stated earlier this year. "But I believe that me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by the production companies, which finance the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how fast season 2 progresses, and how many of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing disclosures, some really cool backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about season 2 — especially in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a couple people make a prediction grid about the new season," she says. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've actually done a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
